First Reconciliation
First Reconciliation Preparation for First Reconciliation normally takes place when a child is in second grade, although older children may be enrolled in the program upon parent request. Children in the second grade are automatically registered for the First Reconciliation preparation program when they are registered in the parish’s weekly K-8 Faith Formation program.
First Reconciliation preparation takes place through three family sessions held monthly from October through December; children attend these sessions with their parent(s) or another responsible adult. The preparation sessions are primarily parent-led and include group activities and adult faith formation components.
First Reconciliation is celebrated in December during the parish’s communal penance service.
In order to celebrate their First Reconciliation, children need to participate regularly in the weekly faith formation program, attend the three sacramental preparation sessions, and have previously been baptized. Children are prepared for and celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation prior to their preparation for First Eucharist (First Communion).
